Beacon — Hotel Staff Safety. Without the Procurement Gauntlet. | Apartment Guardian
Hotel Staff Safety Compliance

Hotel staff safety. Without the procurement gauntlet.

Beacon is the panic button system for hotels that don't have time for a six-week vendor evaluation. Ships in 7 days, self-installs without a technician, and costs a 50-room property $220/month — all-in. Compliant in every regulated jurisdiction.

Why this matters

Hotel safety legislation is accelerating — and enforcement is real.

Eleven US jurisdictions now require hotels to provide staff with portable panic buttons. Washington's H.B. 1524 took effect January 2026. California, Illinois, and New York have had requirements for years. Fines reach $10,000 per violation, per location.

Beyond the laws, the AHLA 5-Star Promise has scaled to over 20,000 properties representing 1.2 million hotel employees — with major brand mandates from Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, IHG, and Wyndham. For franchisees and independents, the question is no longer whether to deploy a panic button system. It's how, when, and with whom.

What is Beacon

One wearable device, one beacon per room, one alert that arrives instantly.

When a hotel staff member presses their PanicTap device, Beacon sends a silent alert to your designated responders within seconds — along with the room-level location of the person in distress. Help arrives at the right place, fast. No app to open. No phone to unlock. One button, one press.

PanicTap wearable device

Lightweight, water-resistant device worn on a lanyard or clipped to a uniform. Single-button activation. 911-connected. Battery lasts months between charges.

Beacon room sensors

Small BLE beacons placed in each guest room and common area. Identifies the exact room where an alert was triggered. No wiring. No installation labor.

Dispatch dashboard

Real-time view of active alerts, device status, and incident logs. Accessible from any browser or mobile device. Compliance documentation auto-generated.

How we compare

Built differently than enterprise hotel safety vendors.

Most hotel panic button platforms are optimized for enterprise procurement. Beacon is built for the hotels they treat as an afterthought.

FAQ

Common questions, straight answers.

Most hotels are fully operational within 10 days of placing an order. Your kit ships within 7 business days. Self-install takes one day during normal room turn — your housekeeping team places the beacons, your front office team activates the devices. We schedule a live 30-minute training call to walk your team through the dispatch dashboard. After that, you're compliant.

Correct. The beacons are battery-powered, peel-and-stick devices. No wiring. No drilling. No network cabling. They communicate wirelessly with the PanicTap devices via low-energy Bluetooth. Your existing Wi-Fi is used for the dispatch dashboard but not for the beacon-to-device communication itself, so dead zones don't compromise the system.

Every current hotel panic button mandate has similar core requirements: a portable device that staff can carry, a single-press activation, an alert that identifies the staff member's location, and automatic incident documentation. Beacon satisfies all four. We provide a compliance documentation packet specific to your state when you onboard.

Beacon doesn't depend on Wi-Fi to function. The wearable device communicates with the room beacons via Bluetooth Low Energy — independent of your network. Wi-Fi is used only for the dispatch dashboard. If you have areas with weak Wi-Fi coverage, the safety system still works fully; only the management dashboard would experience the same intermittent connectivity your guests would in those zones.

Not yet. Beacon is our hotel-specific product line, launched in 2026. Apartment Guardian has been protecting onsite staff in multifamily for 14 years, and the underlying technology is mature, but the AHLA 5-Star partnership process takes 12-18 months. We're working through it. In the meantime, our system meets every technical requirement specified in the 5-Star Promise framework.

If your brand mandates a specific vendor for safety devices, Beacon may not be the right fit yet. We're new to the hotel market in 2026 and brand approval cycles take time. If you have flexibility on vendor selection — or you're an independent operating without a brand mandate — we'd love to talk. Many of the brands that have committed to the 5-Star Promise allow franchisees to source their own compliant vendor.

Standard terms: 12-month minimum commitment, then month-to-month. No upfront hardware costs. All hardware, software, support, and replacement included in the monthly fee. Cancel anytime after the initial 12-month period with 30 days written notice.

Replacement devices are included with your monthly service. Email us, we ship a replacement same or next business day. Reasonable use is expected — if a device gets repeatedly lost or damaged, we'll have a conversation, but normal wear and occasional accidents are part of operating a hotel.
